Is there anything really new? Is there anything unique? Is this artwork a fraud because I have done it with guidance? River challenges and confuses me.
Especially in recent years, I’ve been looking for inspiration and lessons from YouTube. Guidance for this painting can also be found there. So originally the work is an exercise, but I thought the result was so good that I want to consider it a work of art as well. At the same time, however, it is questionable whether I can call the work mine.
Good artists copy; great artists steal.
Pablo Picasso (or Steve Jobs – who knows?)
Like that quotation, some of the details or ideas aren’t my own. But the result is made by my hand, my skills and my passion for art. Even that quote might be stolen from a poet T.S. Elliot, who has written almost similar phrase in his book The Sacred Wood: Essays on Poetry and Criticism (1920).
Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal.
T.S. Elliot
Here’s the original Youtube instructions for this painting. My sincere thanks to The Palette Knife Painting Tutorials.
